Field-Induced Phase Transitions and Dynamics
in Quantum Spin Systems
Proceedings of the International Symposium on Quantum Spin Systems (QSS04)
Edited by Koichi Kindo, Yutaka Ueda, Hitoshi Ohta and Hidekazu Tanaka
This volume is a collection of invited and contributed papers presented at
the International Symposium on Quantum Spin Systems (QSS04) held at
Shonan-Village Center during November 30 - December 3, 2004.
This symposium was a part of activities of the research project
Field-Induced New Quantum Phenomena in Magnetic Systems, which was supported
by a Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research on Priority Area from the
Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of
Japan. The aim of this project is to discover new quantum phenomena induced
by magnetic fields, which cannot be understood in terms of the classical
spin picture, and to develop new concepts concerning the magnetism.
This volume is a thorough survey on the recent theoretical and experimental
developments in this field, and the following topics are covered.
(1) Frustrated Systems
(2) Low Dimensional Systems
(3) Field-Induced Magnetic Ordering
(4) Magnetization Plateaus
(5) Nanometer-Scale Magnets
(6) Spin, Orbital, Charge and Lattice Coupled Systems
(7) Impurity and Pressure Effects
Invited paper on superconductivity in MgB2 by Prof. J. Akimitsu is also
included. Moreover, as topics (3), (4) and (7) are up-to-date central issues
of the project, this volume will be a very good overview of the field and
serves as a useful introduction for non-experts as well as students.
