Brief Summary of Each Supplement
Progress of Theoretical Physics Supplement No. 185
Hypernuclei and Baryon-Baryon Interaction
Ed. by E. Hiyama, T. Motoba and Y. Yamamoto
This volume of the Supplement is to review recent progress of
hypernuclear physics from viewpoints of theory and experiment.
Systematic studies of hypernuclear physics in Japan began in the context
of the research project Cluster Structure of Hypernuclei in the 1980s.
The results obtained during these years are summarized in Prog. Theor.
Phys. Suppl. No. 81 (1985). After 1985, further developments in
hypernuclear physics have been achieved extensively. Then, those
results are summarized in Prog. Theor. Phys. Suppl. No. 117 (1994).
In the 1990s, the next generation meson-theoretical models of
hyperon-nucleon (YN) and hyperon-hypreon (YY) interactions were
constructed by the Nijmegen group. Furthermore, new techniques for
accurate few-body calculations have been developed and have been applied
to various hypernuclear systems systematically.
Experimentally, many epoch-making data regarding hypernuclear physics
have been obtained, for example, high-resolution γ-ray data for
Λ hypernuclei and the uniquely identified double-Λ hypernuclei
in emulsion.
In this volume, we focus on elucidating three points: (1) the new
understanding we have come to obtain; (2) the important issues still
remaining; and (3) the kinds of experiments that should be carried out
at J-PARC.
