String Field Theory and Related Aspects (SFT2010)
Proceedings of the International Conference
Ed. by I. Kishimoto, H. Kunitomo and T. Takahashi
This volume contains the proceedings of the international conference
``String Field Theory and Related Aspects (SFT2010)'',
held at the Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics (YITP) in Kyoto
on October 18 -- 22, 2010.
This is the third conference designed to provide a stimulating
environment for discussion of new developments
in string field theory and related topics.
From a fundamental point of view, string field theory (SFT) is regarded
as a promising theory for providing a non-perturbative definition of
strings and uncovering the underlying physical principles behind
string theory. From a practical point of view, SFT is useful in the
study of non-perturbative phenomena, like tachyon condensation.
Many string theorists, therefore, have attempted to construct consistent
(super) SFTs and investigate their properties.
As a result, a number of significant developments have been made,
including the recent discovery of an analytic solution
for tachyon condensation.
At this conference, the following topics were covered:
Historical review of SFT and current problems
Super SFT and its cosmological application
New classical solutions in SFT
Quantum field theory of D-particles
Homotopy algebra and its applications to SFT
Numerical classical solutions in SFT
Closed strings in open SFT
Canonical quantization and gauge fixing of SFT
Pure spinors and SFT
This volume includes thirty papers written for talks given in the
conference. We hope that these papers will help
promote further developments in string field theory.
