Title

Non-linear visco-elastic properties of granular materials near jamming transition

Abstract

We numerically investigate the rheological properties of granular materials near jamming transition under an oscillatory shear in terms of our simulation of the distinct element method. It is demonstrated that the complex shear modulus strongly depends on the amplitude and the frequency of the oscillatory shear. For a small amplitude region, they are described by the Kelvin-Voigt model, while they obeys a phenomenological constitutive model, which describes a yield stress liquid, for a large amplitude region. We also find that the complex shear modulus near the jamming transition point satisfy critical scaling laws, which is consistent with the prediction of a phenomenology.
