July 22--26, 2014
Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics, Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan
Panasonic Hall, Yukawa Memorial Building
There have been annual workshops in Kyoto on string theory and quantum field theory for more than 20 years. Last year, around 150 participants gathered and there were around 40 short talks and 4 long talks as well as poster sessions. This annual workshop is definitely one of the largest workshops of this field in Japan. Various topics discussed in the past workshops include:
Developments in quantum field theory:
supersymmetric gauge theory, duality in gauge theory,
supersymmetry breaking, the large N expansion, lattice gauge theory,
supersymmetric lattice theory, renormalization group
String theory and gravity:
string field theory, tachyon condensation, matrix models,
the pure spinor formalism, membrane theory, Liouville theory,
quantum gravity, black holes, singularities in spacetime,
applications to cosmology
Interplay between string theory and quantum field theory:
AdS/CFT correspondence, integrability in string theory,
noncommutative geometry, topological field theory and topological strings,
Chern-Simons theory, extra dimensions, applications to phenomenology,
holographic QCD, applications to condensed matter physics
This year we invite a few speakers from abroad and all the talks will be in English. We in particular encourage participation of foreign researchers in Japan. The Gion Festival, which is one of the most famous festivals in Japan, takes place annually in Kyoto, and we can enjoy some of the main events of the festival during this week.
The registration has been closed. While participation in the workshop without registration is allowed, we may need to give priority to registered participants in case the number of participants exceeds the capacity of Panasonic Hall.
The workshop consists of oral sessions and poster sessions. At the registration, a 20-minute talk or a presentation at poster sessions can be chosen. We will try to accommodate your preference, but we may need to limit the number of talks. The abstract submitted at the registration will be announced at the web site later.
Slides in oral sessions and files in poster sessions will be uploaded at this web site and submitted to the online Japanese journal "Soryushiron Kenkyu" (translated as "Research in high-energy physics"). We will not publish proceedings for this workshop. Please contact the organizers if you do not want to disclose your slides or poster files. All the talks will be broadcast online. Please contact the organizers in advance if you do not want your talk to be broadcast online.
We have limited funds to support travel expenses and accommodations for participants who do not have sufficient funds, and support can be requested at the registration. As our funds are limited, we may not be able to accommodate all the requests. If you have your own funds, we ask you to cover your trip by yourself so that we can support more participants without sufficient funds. We will not be able to cover airfare from abroad except for invited speakers.
As we have limited resources, we will not arrange accommodations for participants. Please book a room at a hotel by yourself. Since some of the main events of the Gion Festival take place during the week of the workshop, we strongly encourage you to arrange accommodations as soon as possible.
