Onigiri (おにぎり)
Japanese food such as Sushi and Tempura are well-known and can be
found around the world. But Japanese people do not eat them on a daily
basis because they are expensive and time-consuming to cook. On the
other hand, Onigiri (Japanese rice ball) is more popular and is eaten
like sandwiches in Japan. Onigiri has unique shape (typically it is
triangle and is wrapped by dried seeweed) and is sometimes artistic
(in my sense). Fascinating point of Onigiri is that only a few
ingredients are required: rice, salt, and dried seeweed (plus
something being put inside such as Japanese pickled apricots, grilled
salmon, tuna etc). Therefore it is easy to cook, low cost and
tasty. But after travelling around the world, I noticed that Onigiri
is less popular and not easy to find in the world except easten
Asia. So I would like to advertise Onigiri to non-Japanese people as a
supporter of Onigiri Society.
I hope the world will change so that one can get Onigiri more easily
at every supermarkets around the world in near future.
