Long-term workshop on
"Holographic vistas on Gravity and Strings"

As part of activity of the Yukawa International Program for Quark-Hadron Sciences, we will organize a two-month long-term workshop in 2014 on physics related to Holographic principle.

After the discovery of the AdS/CFT correspondence, various ideas and methods in general relativity have become crucially important for the development of string theory. Indeed, recently there has been remarkable progress in analytical and numerical techniques to solve the Einstein equations. Many interesting classical solutions have been discovered, such as black rings and holographic superconductors. At the same time, these new gravitational methods provide us with novel tools to study important properties of strongly coupled condensed matter systems, such as hydrodynamics or more general transport coefficients. Moreover, such gravitational techniques have been applied to study time-dependent processes of strongly coupled systems such as quantum quenches. These concerted efforts of both numerical and analytical methods will play a more and more significant role in understanding highly non-linear phenomena in black hole physics as well as in the context of AdS/CFT correspondence. In this long-term workshop, we would like to invite world-class researchers from both general relativity and string theory communities, hoping that these interactions will produce new ideas and research directions in both subjects.

Our proposal is to have a really relaxed style workshop. We have a concentrated three-day workshop (May 26-28)[The program and speakers of 3 day intensive workshop (click here)][Pdf file version (click here)], but the basic idea of this workshop is mostly to get together for discussions. Besides these specified dates, we will not organize any official seminar, although we have a lot of free slots to arrange un-official seminars if participants wish [The informal seminar schedule of long term program(click here)]. As an official activity, we will have coffee break at the specified time everyday to promote free discussions.

We welcome all who are interested in this and related topics, though we may need to restrict the number of participants because of the limitation of the office capacity. Please contact us at the e-mail address below. We are sorry but we will not be able to provide finantial support to the ordinary participants.

This workshop is held as one of the YIPQS long-term workshops.
