NFST2018 1st Circular
Dear Colleagues, This is the first announcement of a long-term workshop ===================================================== New Frontiers in String Theory 2018 (NFST 2018) July 2 - August 3, 2018 http://www2.yukawa.kyoto-u.ac.jp/~nfst2018/index.php ===================================================== which will be held at Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics (YITP), Kyoto, Japan. * Aims and Scopes The aim of the workshop is to discuss recent topics in string theory and develop new ideas. In particular, one of the main purposes is to provide an opportunity to discuss profound relations among string theory, quantum gravity and quantum field theory. The first week (July 2 - July 6) will be a post-strings conference, which will start right after the conference "Strings 2018" at OIST, Okinawa. The talks in this week will be given by invited speakers. The next three weeks (July 9 - July 27) will be more topical with a relaxed schedule. We will have a small number of talks (both invited and contributed) and plenty of time for discussion. The participants of these three weeks can use assigned desks and other facilities at YITP. (Please understand that we may not be able to provide a desk for everyone, if the number of participants exceeds that of the desks.) The fifth week (July 30 - August 3) will be an intensive conference "Strings and Fields 2018", which has been annually held at YITP. There will be a lot of talks as well as poster presentations. Note that the fifth week conference "Strings and Fields 2018" is regarded as a separate workshop and the participants of this week are asked to register through the web page of "Strings and Fields 2018". (The web page is not available yet. Please check http://www2.yukawa.kyoto-u.ac.jp/~qft.web/ ) See below and the web page: http://www2.yukawa.kyoto-u.ac.jp/~nfst2018/registration.php for more details on the registration. * Tentative schedule and topics featured July 2 - July 6 (1st week): Post-Strings Conference July 9 - July 13 (2nd week): holography, CFT, etc. July 17 - July 20 (3rd week): SFT, higher spin, etc. July 23 - July 27 (4th week): SUSY, QFT, etc. July 30 - August3 (5th week): String and Fields 2018 * Venue Panasonic Auditorium, Yukawa Hall, Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics, Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan * Accommodation For the participants of the workshop, we are holding a block of rooms at several hotels in Kyoto via a travel agency. The hotel reservation page will appear in the workshop webpage by the end of January. Please note that there will be a famous festival "Gion Matsuri" in July and, because of this event, hotels in Kyoto will be sold out soon. If you would like to arrange your accommodation by yourself, we strongly recommend to do so as soon as possible. * Travel See the following web page for the travel information: http://www2.yukawa.kyoto-u.ac.jp/~nfst2018/access.php * Financial support We have a limited budget to partly support the local expenses for the participants who do not have their own grants. If you would like to apply for the support, please indicate it in the registration form. * Registration Please register at the workshop website: http://www2.yukawa.kyoto-u.ac.jp/~nfst2018/registration.php The deadline for the registration is *** March 31, 2018 ***. For the participants who request neither the financial support, visas nor presentations, we will accept the registration until May 13, 2018. People who wish to attend the fifth week in addition to part of earlier weeks should also register through the web page of "Strings and Fields 2018". If you are attending only the fifth week, you only need to register at the web page of "Strings and Fields 2018". In that case, the deadline is May 11, 2018. * Contact nfst2018[at]yukawa.kyoto-u.ac.jp (local organizers and secretary) * Organizers Yasuaki Hikida (YITP), Shinji Hirano (Witwatersrand), Kazuo Hosomichi (NDA), Hiroshi Kunitomo (YITP), Masaki Shigemori (Queen Mary), Shigeki Sugimoto (YITP, Chair), Tadashi Takayanagi (YITP), Seiji Terashima (YITP) With best regards, Organizers
