"Valence bond solid states on the square lattice"
Soichiro MOHRI (Univ. of Tokyo)
One-dimensional valence bond solid (VBS) states belong to symmetry protected topological phase when the number of the valence bonds is odd and belong to trivial phase when the number of the valence bonds is even. It is predicted that this is also true for higher dimensional VBS states when the translational symmetry is preserved; In other words, higher dimensional VBS states are classified by the parity of the valence bonds in each direction. To verify the prediction we constructed SO(3) symmetric spin-2 VBS states on the square lattice which can be represented as projected entangled pair states.
