• By pursuing our own interests while remaining open to others’ perspectives, we aim to go beyond what any indivisual could imagine and contribute to the development of quantum information science.
• Through research, we aim to develop individuals who are intrinsically motivated, creative, and capable of rigorous logical thinking. By valuing openness to diverse perspectives and open communication, we prepare them to contribute to and lead their communities.

Guiding Principles

The following are not expectations to be met from the outset. Even the faculty members are still working on many of these. We see this as a gradual process shaped through ongoing trial and error.

• We see research as something that grows out of personal curiosity, and we support students in becoming increasingly independent researchers. Learning to decide not only what questions to pursue, but also how to pursue them, marks an important stage of that growth.
• Strong research skills will be built through small, consistent efforts and a commitment to continuous learning. Meaningful progress takes time.
• Research often involves long periods of uncertainty. We value deep thinking over short-term results, using “why” as an entry point to new ideas, and learning through direct hands-on experimentation.
• We encourage the development of a deep understanding of quantum information and the cultivation of an original narrative rather than relying on secondhand explanations.
• We value open-mindedness, detours, and a sense of play, and encourage each person to contribute to the comfort and well-being of the group in their own way. We believe that connections across diverse values can lead to something we cannot yet imagine.
