Avalanches play major roles in various phenomena such as landslides, earthquakes, the motion of superconducting vorticities or various jammed amorphous solids. The motion of avalanches is complex, because avalanches are result of nonlinear response of a perturbation. Indeed, if an external force to a jammed solid material is below a threshold, it behaves as a solid, but it starts avalanches above the threshold. To know the mechanism of such nonlinear response of jammed solids and avalanches is important not only to control them but also to develop the basic science of non-equilibrium statistical mechanics. The purpose of this workshop is to gather experts of the problem in various backgrounds together to get a unified view of avalanches, plasticity and nonlinear response for non-equilibrium solids. The workshop will promote interactions between participants from various different disciplines.
